I feel uneasy about attempting to analyse something that’s designed to be so emotive, it seems somehow disrespectful, so i shan’t. The notes and messages left by grievers in the days after the event now line an 11m high glass cylinder outside one of Madrid’s train stations, with a viewing area beneath designed for prayer and reflection.

Let me guess, the glass represents the fragility of life? Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
